Complaint Procedures


The Davis Joint Unified School District personnel are dedicated to delivering high quality educational services to all students and also to providing parents/guardians with the information they need to support their child’s progress and achievement in school.

In the interest of supporting the best possible outcomes for all our students, the District encourages parents/guardians to communicate the successes of their child to school site faculty and administration.  Knowing what is working well helps keep programs strong.

In the alternative if parents/guardians perceive an issue to be interfering with their child’s success in school, the parent/guardian should work directly with the site classroom teacher. If parents/guardians perceive the issue continues to interfere with their child's success and there is no resolution please seek assistance from the school administrator.  If the issue cannot be resolved at the school site level, a formal complaint may be filed with the Student Services Department at the District Office. Formal complaint forms are available at each school site.

We thank you for your time and effort in providing feedback.  Should you choose to submit a complaint form, please read the descriptions of the three following forms so we may respond to your concerns in the most appropriate and timely manner:

Complaint Form – [Formulario de queja] Use this form when you wish to make a formal written complaint about an employee, a district policy, or other condition of the Davis Joint Unified School District.  

Instructions:  You will need to write a narrative which specifies the points of your complaint and how you would want the problem remediated.   The complaint is then submitted to the school site administrator who is responsible for acknowledging the complaint, conducting an investigation and responding in writing.  More details of the process are on the back of the form itself.

Federal Uniform Complaint [Formulario federal/estatal uniforme de presentación de queja] Use this form only for a complaint  made on behalf of a legally protected class of people who are protected from unlawful discrimination (based on race, ethnicity, color, ancestry, national origin, gender, sex, sexual orientation, mental or physical disability, religion, or age) or failure to comply with state or federal law in these programs:  adult basic education, categorical aid programs, migrant education vocational education , child care and development programs, child nutrition programs and special education programs. The instructions listed above above apply to this process also.

Student Complaint Form [Formulario de Presentación Reclamos para Estudiantes]
Any student who feels they have been harassed, threatened, intimidated, or bullied by another student, or by a staff member employed by the Davis Joint Unified School District may submit a complaint by completing this form and filing it with the school principal.

Todo estudiante que sienta que ha sido acosado, amenazado, intimidado, u hostigado por otro estudiante, o por un miembro del personal empleado por el Distrito Escolar Unificado Davis puede presentar un reclamo llenando este formulario y presentándolo al director de la escuela.

Williams Act Complaint – [Formulario uniforme de queja de Williams] Use this form if you have a complaint regarding deficient instructional material, teacher vacancies, teacher misassignment, or maintenance of facilities. Complaints in this category may be anonymous, but if you wish to have a response, you must provide a contact number.   Submit this complaint to the Director of Student Services at the District Office.
